Filming Blog for my Music Video

Image
During my filming process for my music video it surprisingly took longer than I thought. The location I decided to film at was my friend's house. I chose her house because she has a pool outside and because she lived close to me. First we started filming the shots for the beginning of the video. These shots consisted of me entering the house from school and soon entering the bathroom. In the bathroom it basically shows me looking at myself in the mirror looking at my "imperfections". Soon after we take close up shots of my eyes and then I started to become my character in the video. I began straightening my hair however it wouldn't really stay pin straight no matter how much I tried. Then we took other shots of me after I had my dress on and began to apply lip gloss. Around this time it was getting dark forgetting that it would happen so early due to the time change. In addition, my friend had a gym class and we just decided to continue the following day....

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
In the first picture of my storyboard template it is basically going to be a shot of me scrolling through social media while looking at influencers/models. In the next picture it is going to be a shot of me looking at myself in the mirror looking at my imperfections. For the third box, it is a drawing of a dress on my bed. This is where I go through my wardrobe and pull out this dress and throw it onto my bed. In the fourth picture it is a shoebox with heels in them in which in the following picture it is me wearing the shoes. This shot will be me putting on the heels after I put on my dress. The next box is a picture of me straightening my hair. For the actual film itself, I will be also adding make up like false lashes, lipstick or lip gloss, some highlighter, and a bit of eye shadow. In the next two boxes, it will be close up shots of my eyes, which will match the chorus of the song. For the first close up it will be me with my false lashes and make up after I fin...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
To start off, in the music video for the song 'In Your Eyes' by The Weeknd, he is in this costume consisting of a red suit with a black shirt and tie, black pants, glasses and a bandage over his broken nose. He portrays this character throughout his entire album as this emotionless man. In the video it starts out with him in an elevator as a young woman and man walk in, he then commits a murder which was the man and the young woman is now running away form him throughout most of the video with blood all over her. There multiple settings throughout the video like the elevator, the road she was running on, the telephone booth, a building in which had dark red lighting where she was hiding from The Weeknd's character, and a club. In the video there was different lighting which helped give that eerie and suspenseful effect in the video. This lighting was more of low lighting, the low red lighting used in the building and in the club, flashy lighting also used in the club, and ...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For this new project I decided that I want to work alone. I honestly feel like I work better alone because I get to do what I want and brainstorm instead of constantly changing things because of other people's ideas. In addition, I've also always worked better alone because when I work with others I tend to get distracted. This then leads to having a project with poor content and the results would not reach my desired standards that I want for the project itself. Working alone also allows me to not have to rely on my partners' work and having to constantly worry when it comes to travelling a certain distance, time, etc. For the music choice, I decided to pick the song 'In Your Eyes' by The Weeknd. I chose this song because I am a fan of his music and because it has an upbeat tempo to it. The song is not necessarily sad nor "super happy". Yes it is upbeat and it is a very fun, catchy song but it doesn't necessarily have a sad or happy story behin...

Creative Critical Reflection Blog

Image
Creative Critical Reflection 1) How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues? My product uses conventions from multiple camera movements and angles, different props, settings, and costumes. My commercial opening starts out with a slight zoom in to focus on the Nike shoebox which I used as one of props. Throughout my film I used different types of camera movements, shots, and angles consisting of zooms, low shots, Steadicams, and more. My setting consisted of 3 main locations which was in front of the water, on a small bridge, and a bench, which all 3 were in the same general area. I decided to have an outdoor setting so there is a more natural, free vibe to the commercial. I also wanted there to be bright, natural light in my video as well. My outfits or in this case costumes were all apparel by Nike and each of them had a different style and colorway to it. I used different filters to match with each outfit and give each ou...

Nike commercial Editing Blog

Image
Throughout the process of editing my Nike commercial I had a lot of fun. Although I got frustrated multiple times because I'm not the greatest with technology I eventually figured it out and was happy with my result. After I finished filming I favorited each clip that I thought that would look the best for my commercial on my phone, uploaded them to my google drive then uploaded them to Clipchamp. I kept overthinking and didn't know where I should put some of the clips but then I just kind of made a pattern of some of the clips with my two outfits and my jump roping clips. After I added each clip in the right spots I added the VHS filter to make it look even more vintage. I also added fade-ins to about three clips and cut some of the clips short to match the background music and for the required duration of the commercial.  Then to make my commercial come more into view of my original ideas, I viewed the text features and movements that they ...

Nike commercial

Image
For my Nike commercial I decided that I didn't really want to only make it based off of athleticism or in general Nike's athletic clothing line. For my commercial I really wanted to show different styles and the range of clothing that they have. Even though yes I only included three outfits, I had a meaning behind the entire thing in my mind. I wanted to show that Nike has anything for anybody from having lifestyle clothes to athletic clothes or loungewear to streetwear. So throughout my commercial I continuously kept switching back and forth from my outfit shots to the shots of m jump roping to convey this. In the commercial I decided to use different filters from Instagram one with a pink retro tint and the other with a more goldish grainy look to it. I chose these filters to give off a vintage/modern look for the commercial and used an outdoor setting for a natural, golden effect. I took shots in front of the water, on a bench in the sun and on a road while I was j...

Filming Blog

Image
Throughout my filming process I walked and took shots in multiple locations around my friends neighborhood. I filmed my commercial in the afternoon so I can get a good amount of natural light in the film but also give that golden hour vibe. Between filming I had to stop a good amount of times because there would be strong breezes. I also had to keep stopping because the ducks that were in the same area as we were kept getting near my shots so I had to lead them away. When filming I used different filters especially one with a pink tint to match my outfit and give off a retro feminine vibe. For my other outfit I used a more simple filter that matched the lighting outside and show off the gray and white off my second outfit. In my pink and blue outfit I filmed in front of the water and showed off my air force 1s and took close up films of my windbreaker. In those close up shots I mainly focused on showing the Nike logo to let the audience know that it is a Nike...
